Former Wellcamp Airport commercial manager Sara Hales has been appointed the airport’s new general manager.<\/p>\n

Sara began working at Wellcamp four years ago when the complex was little more than a patch of dirt.<\/p>\n

From May 2, she will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of the multi-million-dollar domestic passenger and international cargo airport.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe in what the airport can achieve for our community and look forward to continuing to work with our team to ensure its success,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Sara led the establishment of the international cargo business at Wellcamp, making all commercial and operational arrangements for the start of Cathay Pacific\u2019s 747-8f weekly cargo service to Hong Kong in 2016.<\/p>\n

She also managed government departmental negotiations for the airport\u2019s international operations, including the Cathay Pacific operation and the TSBE Access China flight to Shanghai in October 2016.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember watching the first pour of concrete in the passenger terminal a few years ago, and John (Wagner) said to me: ‘This is an historic moment’. I thought to myself, all the moments are historic around here \u2013 and there have been many \u2013 it\u2019s been quite a ride,” she said.<\/p>\n

Wagners director John Wagner said he was pleased the Board was able to appoint an internal candidate to the role.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s great to see staff rise through the business ranks and look for opportunities to grow and develop within an organisation they are already invested in,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
