South Burnett Women – the not-for-profit group behind the $5000 Dr Ellen Mary Kent Hughes Memorial Scholarship – held another successful fundraising event in Kingaroy on Thursday night.<\/p>\n

Members and friends gathered at the Kingaroy Art Gallery to enjoy canapes and wine, and browse the current exhibition by Jumping Ant Arts.<\/p>\n

Guest speaker for the “Night At The Gallery” was South Burnett CTC CEO Nina Temperton.<\/p>\n

This is the first time South Burnett Women have organised a function at the gallery, but president Caroline Cavanagh said she had been looking for an opportunity to use the beautiful space.<\/p>\n

All funds raised on the night – except for a small donation to the gallery – will go towards South Burnett Women’s fundraising for its next scholarship recipient.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Dr Ellen Mary Kent Hughes Memorial Scholarship \u00a0is a bursary to assist a young South Burnett woman with tertiary study.<\/p>\n

The inaugural recipient was announced last month on International Women’s Day.<\/p>\n

The other aim of the group is to encourage and inspire South Burnett women.<\/p>\n

To encourage networking amongst those present, a “game” involving $1 coins and swapping items encouraged the women gathered at the gallery to chat to people they didn’t know.<\/p>\n

“We aim to connect, empower and help women grow in our local community,” Caroline said.<\/p>\n
