When the Wondai Regional Art Gallery\u2019s walls begin to fill with floral works, visitors know the countdown to the town\u2019s annual Autumn Garden Expo has begun.<\/p>\n

The 24th Wondai Autumn Garden Expo will be held this weekend (April 15-16) at the Wondai Sportsground and Lions Pavilion.<\/p>\n

It will feature stalls and horticultural displays from 8:00am to 4:30pm on Saturday, and 8:00am to 1:00pm on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The popular Stolzenberg Brothers will be providing the entertainment, and there’ll also be guest speakers.<\/p>\n

Visitors to the Expo can also drop into the Wondai RSL in Mackenzie Street to see the South Burnett Orchid Society\u2019s Annual Show, which will be open from 9:30am to 3:00pm on Saturday.<\/p>\n

And at the roundabout, they can also visit the Wondai Regional Art Gallery where all the entries in the this year’s Garden Expo Art Competition are on display, and will remain until the end of April.<\/p>\n

Last Friday’s opening night attracted a good sized crowd eager to look at the quality works on display.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Unfortunately first prize winning artist Sue Lederhose, from Mundubbera, was unable to put in an appearance to accept her $500 cheque for a striking watercolour of a Eucalyptus tree.<\/p>\n

Second prize went to Maureen Addenbrooke\u2019s “My Garden”, a beautifully constructed leather-encased book whose pages are made from dried leaves.<\/p>\n

Third prize went to Lisa Jorgensen for her mixed media work “Along The Bunya Highway”, and fourth prize to Cartia Longden from Wilkesdale for “I Can Do This”, a work that captured the hope and determination of a native bird as it wrestled with foliage.<\/p>\n

Several High Commendations and Commendations were also handed out.<\/p>\n

The annual Garden Expo Art Competition is sponsored by the Wondai Garden Expo Committee, and it offers $1000 in cash prizes.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The competition\u2019s main criteria is that works need to reflect some aspect of gardening in the South Burnett, and it\u2019s always a very popular event.<\/p>\n

Judging for this year’s competition was carried out by Gympie Regional Art Gallery Coordinator Joolie Gibbs.<\/p>\n

The exhibition was officially opened by Cr Ros Heit, who said she was very impressed with the standard of entries in this year\u2019s competition, and Wondai Garden Expo president Helen Young, who congratulated all the artists who entered.<\/p>\n
