{"id":173778,"date":"2017-03-28T00:26:12","date_gmt":"2017-03-27T14:26:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=173778"},"modified":"2020-09-20T15:04:38","modified_gmt":"2020-09-20T05:04:38","slug":"still-smiling-at-goomeri-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2017\/03\/28\/still-smiling-at-goomeri-show\/","title":{"rendered":"Still Smiling At Goomeri Show"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_173780\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-173780\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20170325goomeri1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-173780\" title=\"20170325 Goomeri Show\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20170325goomeri1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20170325goomeri1.jpg 620w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/20170325goomeri1-300x186.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-173780\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Proston P-10 students Jade Mann, Grace Kerlin, Brian Smith and Alana Doessel &#8230; the school brought along nine cattle to the show, and Brian also came third in the Young Judges competition<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>March 28, 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The week leading up to the Goomeri Show was great for local farmers &#8211; rain almost every day! &#8211; but was less helpful to show organisers.<\/p>\n<p>In the end, all events went ahead with the exception of the show-jumping which was cancelled because the ground was just too soft.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It wouldn&#8217;t have been a month ago that this place looked so dry, &#8221; Show Society president\u00a0Amanda McArthur said ruefully at the official show opening on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>But she quickly acknowledged the rain had been very welcome.<\/p>\n<p>The wet weather meant entries in the stud beef and equestrian competitions were down as some would-be competitors could not get their stock off their properties.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The show was opened by Gympie councillor Hilary Smerdon, who represents Division 6 which covers the Goomeri area.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cr Smerdon congratulated the organisers on the effort they had put into the show. and noted that putting on an agricultural show was getting &#8220;harder and harder&#8221; every year.<\/p>\n<p>While the opening was happening, a large dog show, which had kept enthusiasts busy at the lower end of the showgrounds area, was winding up.<\/p>\n<p>And in the pavilion, small groups of visitors inspected the entries in the various competitions.<\/p>\n<p>Crowd numbers increased as the day continued with the evening program attracting a lot of interest.<\/p>\n<p>The working cowhorse competition was held in the top ring on Saturday night, part of the Stockman\u2019s Challenge which continued on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Other highlights were the hay stacking competition and ironman challenge.
