Kingaroy State High School P&C president Robert Postlethwaite has welcomed last week’s State Government announcement of $4.5 million funding for a new school hall.<\/p>\n

When southburnett.com.au<\/strong> spoke to Mr Postlethwaite on Friday he was still a bit puzzled, saying the total funds in the grant had not been confirmed.<\/p>\n

He said the high school needed a new assembly hall as the current Indoor Sports building was now too small for the school’s growing population.<\/p>\n

“It’s getting small very quickly, especially when you look at the projected numbers,” he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Postlethwaite confirmed that Stage II of the Performing Arts Complex had been the original plan for a new hall, however this building – for which plans had been drawn up – had been costed at about $7 million.<\/p>\n

P&C fundraising for the project, which was to be built in the car park beside the Indoor Sports building, had slowed, especially since the closure of the P&C’s auction mart.<\/p>\n

Mr Postlethwaite said he hoped to have more details about the State Government grant to present to the P&C meeting on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

Deputy Opposition Leader and Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said the announcement came after the State Government had done nothing for school infrastructure for more than two years.

\n\u201cThe LNP Opposition have been calling on the Labor Government to invest money in school infrastructure and I am disappointed it has taken this long for the need to be identified,\u201d Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n
