History was made at Durong on Tuesday when the local hall hosted its first business expo … or the first that anyone can remember!<\/p>\n

The “Durong Open House” was organised by the Burnett Inland Economic Development Organisation (BIEDO) and CEO Kristy Frahm.<\/p>\n

AgForce SEQ members also lent a hand, and the mothers from the Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association’s “ABC” branch (Auburn-Burrandowan-Cadarga) worked in the kitchen to prepare a buffet lunch.<\/p>\n

The Open House featured a range of stalls from local businesses and not-for-profit organisations aiming to connect with members of the Durong community.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Trade stalls included Ken Mills Machinery, BGA AgriServices and a new venture by Wooroolin farmer – and former Test fast bowler – Carl Rackemann.<\/p>\n

Carl was promoting his agricultural machinery business, OzValueAG, which is based in Kingaroy but has agencies in a number of other Queensland towns.<\/p>\n

Another new concept being promoted was AgriLabour Australia’s “from deployment to employment” Agri Veterans program which aims to connect former Defence Force personnel with careers in agriculture.<\/p>\n

Manager Peter Thatcher said the program had only been running for about a year but had already placed about 50 people in agricultural jobs.<\/p>\n

With thoughts of the drought never far away, representatives from a number of government departments, including Centrelink, were also on hand to supply information as well as Rural and Remote Mental Health.<\/p>\n
