The historic Mary Valley Rattler will hit the tracks in Gympie once again following final approval of $4.7 million in funding through the State Government\u2019s $200 million Works for Queensland program.<\/p>\n

The train was shut down in 2012 after two derailments.<\/p>\n

Deputy Premier Jackie Trad said the revival of the much-loved tourism drawcard would boost jobs and drive the local economy.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2019This funding will not only restore vital infrastructure on the Mary Valley Heritage Railway track, Gympie Regional Council estimates it will generate 22 much-needed local jobs,\u201d Ms Trad said.<\/p>\n

\u201cCouncil has worked hard with the Department of Transport and Main Roads to get this project off the ground and I\u2019m pleased to say work can now kick off.”<\/p>\n

Gympie Mayor Mick Curran said it was an incredibly important project for the region.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is fantastic news. It now means that we can get on with delivering this project for the wider community,” he said.<\/p>\n
