The way health services at Cherbourg work together was showcased at a forum held in the town recently.<\/p>\n

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Forum was organised by the Darling Downs Hospital and\u00a0Health Service and held at The Ration Shed.<\/p>\n

Speakers from the health, education and social services sectors shared their experiences in\u00a0delivering “integrated patient, client and family-centric models of care”.<\/p>\n

Acting Director of Nursing, Aschleigh Perring, said the Cherbourg approach\u00a0was similar to leading models of care being delivered in Canada.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are some very exciting and progressive initiatives happening in Cherbourg at the\u00a0moment,\u201d Mr Perring said.<\/p>\n

\u201cExternal agencies who traditionally work very independently are working together to provide a\u00a0comprehensive health, education and social services to achieve the best outcomes for\u00a0individuals and families.<\/p>\n

\u201cService providers are able to ‘metaphorically wrap their arms around individuals and families’\u00a0that need support.”<\/p>\n

He said the initiatives at Cherbourg could potentially be duplicated in other\u00a0communities.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Services highlighted at the Health Forum included the Cherbourg Hospital, Cherbourg\u00a0Women and Children\u2019s Health Service, Early Intervention and Parenting Service, Community\u00a0Based Nursing, Cherbourg Alcohol and Other Drugs Service, and Deadly Ears screening and\u00a0telehealth programs.<\/p>\n

Presentations were also given on education and social services by the Cherbourg State\u00a0School, Queensland University of Technology Partnerships in Learning, South Burnett CTC\u00a0Youth and Family Services, and the Queensland Police Service Family Panel.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
