Triple P Parenting<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Six Murgon and Cherbourg residents have successfully graduated from a Triple P parenting program organised by Barambah PaCE.<\/p>\n

The workshops, which are designed to instil positive behaviour, were run by Michell, a facilitator from the University of Queensland,<\/p>\n

She believes in the program because it has worked for her\u00a0(see box, below<\/em>).<\/p>\n

And now some Cherbourg and Murgon parents have discovered that the program works, too.<\/p>\n

The participants have all noticed a difference in the relationship they are having with their children since doing the first part of the workshops a little over a month ago.<\/p>\n

Michell said the program was about being “positive and consistent”.<\/p>\n

\u201cChildren thrive off the positive,” she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt takes work but I believe those that do the program could make an immeasurable difference to their happiness and those of their children.\u201d<\/p>\n

Barambah PaCE coordinator Marcus Priaulx said he believed there wasn\u2019t a parent alive that wouldn\u2019t be able to take away at least one useful tip from the workshops to strengthen the bond they had with their children.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have nothing to lose and everything to gain by spending a few hours with Michell and other parents to talk about tips that limit conflict and increase the happiness you have with your children,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

A Horror Story\u00a0With A Happy Ending
\n<\/strong><\/h2>\n
\n

People watched in horror as they saw a young child aged about seven attack his mother with a knife.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He punched her, pulled his sister\u2019s hair and was generally out of control.<\/p>\n

Luckily, it was just a video demonstrating how badly this Scottish child behaved before various techniques brought him back\u00a0within three months to being a normal little boy.<\/p>\n

Rubbish, you might think.<\/p>\n

As she watched the video – part of her training as a family support counsellor – Michell thought this, too. But the story mimicked her own and she thought she\u2019d try a few of the suggested techniques.<\/p>\n

She soon noted a change in her son.<\/p>\n

And as she practised more of what she learned, his behaviour improved each day.<\/p>\n

Now they share a loving relationship of respect.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was a remarkable difference within three months, just like the video,\u201d Michell said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was at the point where I didn\u2019t know what to do.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy son was out of control, getting suspended from school and they were printing 10 pages of stuff he was doing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Today, he has friends; something he never had before and hasn\u2019t been suspended since.<\/p>\n
