Year 10 girls from four South Burnett schools should be feeling just a little bit more confident following workshops held this week\u00a0to coincide with Queensland Women’s Week.<\/p>\n

The students – from Murgon and Kingaroy State High schools, Proston P-10 and St Mary’s Catholic College – had the opportunity to take part in a special program run by\u00a0Enlighten Education<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in Murgon on Monday, and in Kingaroy on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Caroline Cavanagh, president of not-for-profit group South Burnett Women which co-ordinated the project, said Enlighten Education workshops had been running for girls in Nanango for six years.<\/p>\n

The day-long program aims to boost self-worth and resilience.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Women sought funding to expand this opportunity to other girls in the South Burnett<\/p>\n

Support was received from Queensland Women’s Week, the Kingaroy Lions Club and Stanwell.<\/p>\n

Caroline said the four women on the South Burnett Regional Council – \u00a0Kathy Duff, Roz Frohloff, Danita Potter and Ros Heit – also contributed $250 each from their discretionary funds.<\/p>\n

“The workshops are designed to empower the girls, and give them a toolkit to become more self-aware,” workshop presenter\u00a0Storm Greenhill-Brown said.<\/p>\n

The students also explored respectful relationships, managing and understanding social media, and deconstructing the messages they receive from media images.<\/p>\n

A total of 98 students took part in the workshops.<\/p>\n

A surprise visitor at the Kingaroy workshop on Tuesday morning was local MP and Deputy Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
