Continued upgrades and maintenance programs at Tarong Power Station are ensuring the ongoing, reliable operation of the power station past its design life.<\/p>\n

Tarong Power Station Site Manager Dennis Franklin said today the 28-year-old power station, owned by Stanwell Corporation, would continue to operate until at least 2030.<\/p>\n

“Further operation past 2030 will depend on a number of factors including the cost of maintaining safe and reliable operation, fuel costs and market conditions,” he said.<\/p>\n

“The design life for a power station’s major components is traditionally 25 years and operation past this time is dependent on how well the plant has been maintained and the renewal activities that have been undertaken.”<\/p>\n

Maintenance is a continuous process at any power station to ensure that as various components age, reliability and availability is not affected.<\/p>\n

During the past five years, the maintenance program at Tarong Power Station has been particularly busy with the renewal of the control systems and work on the boilers and turbines.<\/p>\n

The South Burnett will benefit from the continued operation of the power station, as Stanwell is a major employer in the region and supporter of community initiatives.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
