The Nanango Race Club will be holding its first race meeting for the year at the Lee Park Raceway on Saturday, February 25.<\/p>\n

The race club used to hold its first meeting of the year in January, but decided to drop it this year to sidestep the heat and thunderstorms.<\/p>\n

And what was usually its second meeting – a Saturday on or near Valentine’s Day – was lost when another race club claimed the date.<\/p>\n

But this turned out to be a lucky thing.<\/p>\n

A Valentines Day meeting this year would have come right in the middle of record-breaking February temperatures when no-one would have been in any mood to venture outside.<\/p>\n

By contrast, this Saturday the Weather Bureau are forecasting a pleasantly sunny day with a maximum temperature of 32 degrees, and the race club is expecting a good roll-up after a 12-week lull in the region’s busy racing cycle.<\/p>\n

The race club have retained the pink Valentines Day colours, though, and will be using the meeting as a fundraiser for breast cancer research.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Guests are encouraged to dress up in their best pink outfits, hats and ties to be in the running for some great Moffatdale Ridge Fashions Of The Field spot prizes.<\/p>\n

Deputy Mayor Kathy Duff will be one of the judges, and fashionistas are welcome to try to out-pink her.<\/p>\n

The best on the day will win one of Cr Duff’s hand-made silver jewellery pieces.<\/p>\n

The club’s popular Champagne@the Bit Bar will be serving up bubbly and platters (including pink champagne), and there’ll be a licensed bar and barbecue running on site, along with bookies and an on-course tote.<\/p>\n

After the last race is run, popular South Burnett trio Mr Q will be providing an hour of live music for guests who’d enjoy an after party.<\/p>\n

Buses will be running from Kingaroy’s Glendon Street Bus Depot at noon, and the Nanango RSL at 12:30pm.<\/p>\n

Gates will open at the track at noon and the first race of the day’s five race card will leave the barriers at 1:25pm.<\/p>\n

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for pensioners (under-15s are free).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
