The Kingaroy Blue Light disco quietly celebrated its twentieth birthday in July last year, largely thanks to the efforts of a dedicated group of volunteers.<\/p>\n

The popular event – which caters for children aged from prep to Year 11 – runs on the second Friday of each month during school terms at Kingaroy Town Hall.<\/p>\n

Blue Light discos are drug, alcohol, chewing gum and tobacco free, and closely supervised to ensure children are safe at all times.<\/p>\n

Last weekend Kingaroy police, Blue Light Disco committee members and regular volunteers were recognized with certificates and commemorative awards for their continued service and dedication.<\/p>\n

In all, 10 awards were handed out for service to Blue Light ranging from 3 to 20 years.<\/p>\n

John Knopke is the only original Blue Light Disco member still on the committee, and he was given a Diamond Life Member award for his two decades of service.<\/p>\n

Kathy Jamieson and Debbie Cox both received a Sapphire Life Membership award for 15 years of service.<\/p>\n

And Sara Bliesner received a Life Membership award for 10 years service.<\/p>\n

The Blue Light Committee meet regularly to organize safe and fun nights out for children.<\/p>\n
