Two new graduate midwives have been welcomed to Kingaroy Hospital.<\/p>\n

DHHS South Burnett acting cluster operations manager Steve McNamara said having the graduate midwives join the team was a great boost for the hospital\u2019s maternity services.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were very excited to welcome our new graduate midwives to Kingaroy Hospital,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cKingaroy has one of the busiest regional maternity services in the DDHHS, so to have two new graduates wanting to come on board is tremendous, especially with midwives in high demand all around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Graduate midwife and registered nurse Brittany Ruffin said she had jumped at the opportunity to join the team at Kingaroy Hospital.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the opportunity came up to do a graduate program here at Kingaroy Hospital I was very interested because rural and remote nursing and midwifery is what I\u2019ve always wanted to do,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve learned so much in the month I\u2019ve been here and loved it, because the scope of practice for rural and remote nurses and midwives is much broader than at a large metropolitan hospital.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are lots of different skillsets but it\u2019s a really supportive environment with a great team so you\u2019ve always got someone to talk to if you need guidance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Ruffin said she would like to work in both nursing and midwifery while at Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI did my RN and midwifery together in a three-and-a-half year extended degree course so I intend to use both, but I think midwifery is where I\u2019m meant to be and where I feel I can do the most good, looking after babies and their mums.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
