The two vehicles involved in the crash at the Lancasters Road intersection were both extensively damaged<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

February 13, 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n

An elderly man was airlifted to hospital with suspected head and chest injuries after a collision at the Lancasters Road intersection at Merlwood on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n

A Holden Colorado trayback ute and a Nissan Patrol 4WD collided at the intersection of Lancasters Road, Murgon-Gayndah Road and Elbow Road just before 3:00pm.<\/p>\n

The man, aged in his 70s, was the driver of one of the vehicles, which contained two passengers.<\/p>\n

The second vehicle had just one occupant.<\/p>\n

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services cut free the passengers from the first vehicle.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ambulance paramedics treated all four. Three with minor injuries were taken by road ambulance to Murgon Hospital.<\/p>\n

The Sunshine Coast RACQ LifeFlight Rescue crew was despatched at 3:11pm and landed on the Murgon-Gayndah Road to airlift the most seriously injured man.<\/p>\n

Traffic was stopped on all three roads to allow the helicopter to land.<\/p>\n

The man was transported to Nambour Hospital in a stable condition.<\/p>\n
