The recent annual Toowoomba Indoor Bowls Carnival saw a number of top performances by Wondai and South Burnett players.<\/p>\n

The two-day Garden City event covered singles, pairs and fours matches, and drew indoor bowlers from all over south east Quensland.<\/p>\n

In the pairs competition, Wondai president Vince Lakin and Ipswich member Diane Knight had a hard-fought encounter before reaching the final through a total of six games.<\/p>\n

Vince and Diane held a narrow lead throughout before going into the last end final one down against the Toowoomba-Redcliffe combination.<\/p>\n

On the final end, both Lakin and Knight drew three shots for a well deserved victory.<\/p>\n

In the singles competition, another triumph came from Val Klein of Maryborough, who is also a member of both the Wondai and Kingaroy indoor bowls clubs.<\/p>\n

After losing her initial game, Val went on to convincing wins to reach the final of the consolation singles.<\/p>\n

Her victory in taking out the event was even more meritorious because Val defeated top Caloundra bowler Carmel Blyth, who has had victories in the national titles.<\/p>\n

The district was also involved with three fours combinations.<\/p>\n

The best performances came from Clive Weier and Faye Holding, who teamed up with Gatton pair Des and Bill Richardson. Their team won three games to reach the semi-finals.<\/p>\n

Other Wondai players who participated were Margaret Stevenson and Daphne Ladlow.<\/p>\n

The annual general meetings of both the Wondai and Kingaroy Indoor Bowls Associations will be held during coming weeks. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Play in a number of annual tournaments will also continue in 2017 with the Siddans Shield, South Burnett fixtures, the Wondai Shield and the Vince Lakin Shield all scheduled for later in the year.<\/p>\n
