Former South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann has taken on a new role as an honorary ambassador for Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport.<\/p>\n

Mr Kratzmann said he regarded it as an honour to be considered a suitable ambassador and help promote the Wagner family\u2019s privately-funded, public-use airport.<\/p>\n

“I am delighted to take on the role and have so much admiration for the Wagner family and their long-term vision for Southern Queensland and surrounds,” Mr Kratzmann said.<\/p>\n

Mr Kratzmann, who stepped down as South Burnett mayor last year to focus on running The Bunyas with his wife Eleanor, said the airport offers many new opportunities for primary producers and residents in the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

“The airport has given so many of us hope and the promise of more viable economical stability and growth in tourism,” Mr Kratzmann said.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s probably the best thing that\u2019s happened to us since Joh Bjelke-Petersen brought the Tarong Mine to Nanango and Kingaroy.”<\/p>\n

He is also keen to promote the virtues of supporting local business.<\/p>\n

“If the destination is right, our first choice should always be Wellcamp Airport. Not only will it save many people time by using the services offered locally, there\u2019s huge potential in the opportunities it offers our primary producers and exporters.”<\/p>\n

Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport developer Mr John Wagner said it was “fantastic” that locals like Mr Kratzmann were keen to embrace the airport.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“We saw a huge opportunity for our region to benefit from a jet-capable airport and we are seeing more and more people adopting the \u2018use local\u2019 approach to their travel,” Mr Wagner said.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s great to have such a highly-regarded member of the community on board to help spread the message.”<\/p>\n

Mr Kratzmann will follow in the footsteps of Queensland sporting identities – and Darling Downs locals – Laura Geitz and Shane Webcke, who helped build community support and awareness about the project during its construction phase.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
