People who’d like to take part in the annual South Burnett Relay For Life can get a discount if they sign up in the next four weeks.<\/p>\n

After a successful 2016 South Burnett Relay For Life, organisers are urging the community to show their support for locals affected by cancer by registering again this year.<\/p>\n

Registrations are now open for Cancer Council Queensland\u2019s 2017 South Burnett Relay For Life, set to be held on October 7-8 at the Kingaroy Showgrounds.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Relay For Life chairperson Rowena Dionysius encouraged teams to register for the annual event, now in its 12th year.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s a great event and after a successful 2016 event raising $175,000, we hope even more people will show their support in 2017,” Ms Dionysius said.<\/p>\n

“We want as many community members, including our region\u2019s cancer survivors and carers, to come along on the event weekend.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s a fantastic chance to celebrate all the hard-work that goes into fundraising all year.”<\/p>\n

Ms Dionysius said by registering now, locals can take advantage of the extra early bird registration of $10 per person, which ends on February 28.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The earlier people register and start fundraising, the more successful they tend to be in reaching their fundraising goal,” she said.<\/p>\n

Cancer Council Queensland spokesperson Katie Clift said Relay For Life was an 18 hour event involving teams of up to 15 people moving in a relay style walk or run overnight.<\/p>\n

“Each year we see the community unite to walk through the night and raise vital funds for our work in cancer control, and we encourage locals to get involved once again,” Ms Clift said.<\/p>\n

“Teams also take part in inspirational ceremonies, fundraising activities and team challenges, supporting each other and sharing stories of hope.<\/p>\n

“Around 2000 people are diagnosed with cancer in South West Queensland each year and Relay For Life is reaching out to help them.<\/p>\n

“Last year Relay For Life helped raise $3.35 million for Cancer Council\u2019s lifesaving research, prevention and education programs, and support services.<\/p>\n

“Each donation, no matter how big or small, helps fund our work and in turn, provides vital support and care for Queenslanders diagnosed with cancer.”<\/p>\n

Locals can register for Relay For Life on their website<\/b><\/a> or by calling 1300-656-585.<\/p>\n

2017 marks 17 years of Relay For Life in Queensland and 55 years of Cancer Council Queensland.<\/p>\n
