Cherbourg Council has two projects shortlisted for funding under a special supplementary round of the State Government’s “Building Our Regions” funding scheme.<\/p>\n

The $5 million round, for Remote and Indigenous councils, has shortlisted 22 projects from 17 councils.<\/p>\n

Each Council must now submit a detailed applications before March 3.<\/p>\n

State Development Minister – and Cherbourg “Champion” – Dr Anthony Lynham said the shortlisted projects were for a range of small but critical projects to support jobs and economic development in remote and regional Indigenous communities.<\/p>\n

\u201cSmall projects can make a big difference in remote communities,\u201d Dr Lynham said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis one-off round of funding will kick-start much-needed infrastructure.”<\/p>\n

Cherbourg Council is seeking a total of $998,950 for revitalisation of the Historical Precinct and for Stage 2 of the Recycling Plant.

\n\u201cAll councils will have to demonstrate detailed and compelling reasons for their shortlisted projects to gain funding,\u201d Dr Lynham said.<\/p>\n

The funds come from the government\u2019s $375 million Building our Regions infrastructure program, which has allocated $150 million to 93 critical infrastructure projects, supporting almost 1300 jobs.<\/p>\n

The $5 million round for remote and Indigenous councils has a minimum funding threshold of $50,000, allowing councils to propose smaller projects than under earlier rounds of Building our Regions.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve listened to councils, who told us that they had smaller projects that didn\u2019t meet the minimum threshold of $100,000,\u201d Dr Lynham said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve responded to their needs and my Department of State Development (DSD) has worked with council staff to help them identify suitable projects and demonstrate how these projects meet community need and support local economic development.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe EOIs have been exceptional and the next stage of assessment will be very competitive.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI urge councils to contact my department for further advice on developing their detailed applications.\u201d<\/p>\n

Applications will undergo a rigorous assessment process by DSD and an advisory committee of senior Queensland Government executives.<\/p>\n

Dr Lynham said he expected successful projects to be released in mid-2017 with construction of the projects expected to start no later than February 28, 2018.<\/p>\n
