The Queensland Law Society (QLS) and State Government have launched an online directory for landholders to easily locate specialist lawyers who will help them negotiate land access deals with resource companies.<\/p>\n

QLS president Bill Potts said the directory was a good “starting place” for landholders approached by resource companies.<\/p>\n

“QLS, in consultation with the Department of Natural Resources and Mines, has developed a Land Access Hub which is available free of charge via the Society\u2019s website,” Mr Potts said.<\/p>\n

“The hub serves as a starting place for landholders who have been approached by resource tenement holders, and who are seeking information about finding experienced practitioners who can assist them.<\/p>\n

“It’s a resource for landholders – whether owners or occupiers – who want to find experienced practitioners who can help in any ensuing land access and compensation negotiations.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

The QLS\u2019s “Find a Solicitor” referral list now includes practitioners with the requisite experience to assist landholders under the Natural Resources and Mining – Land Access category.<\/p>\n

Mr Potts said practitioners listed on the directory will have a minimum five years\u2019 experience advising clients in negotiating land access agreements and compensation pursuant to the Mineral and Energy Resources (Common Provisions) Act 2014 and its predecessor Acts (particularly the Mineral Resources Act 1989, the Petroleum Act 1923 and the Petroleum and Gas (Production and Safety) Act 2004) and make good agreements under Division 3 of the Water Act 2000.<\/p>\n

“The referral list is free to join and is an opportunity for practitioners to broaden their client base, as well as playing an important part in contributing to the Society\u2019s efforts to support Queensland\u2019s rural community,” Mr Potts said.<\/p>\n
