{"id":166164,"date":"2016-12-14T03:35:06","date_gmt":"2016-12-13T17:35:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=166164"},"modified":"2022-12-01T15:14:22","modified_gmt":"2022-12-01T05:14:22","slug":"you-can-be-whatever-you-want","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2016\/12\/14\/you-can-be-whatever-you-want\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;You Can Be Whatever You Want&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_166175\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-166175\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/20161208nurunderi1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-166175\" title=\"20161208 Nurunderi Graduation\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/20161208nurunderi1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/20161208nurunderi1.jpg 620w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/20161208nurunderi1-300x186.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-166175\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Proud mum Elvie Douglas and grandma Patricia Douglas with graduate Malachi Wallace (Cert III in Early Childhood Education and Care)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>December 14, 2016<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nurunderi TAFE&#8217;s main lecture theatre was filled to overflowing with students and proud family members at the recent end-of-year graduation.<\/p>\n<p>Special guest for the occasion was State MP and Minister For State Development, Dr Anthony Lynham, who helped distribute the graduation certificates to the students.<\/p>\n<p>The event was compered by Jenni Butler, Executive Director Studies at TAFE Queensland South West.<\/p>\n<p>She emphasised that some students weren&#8217;t present for the ceremony but it was only because they had secured jobs &#8230; which brought a round of applause from the audience.<\/p>\n<p>Nurunderi Campus Business Co-ordinator Santina Schmocker said there had also been good employment outcomes from a joint project that Nurunderi had run in conjunction with the South Burnett Regional Council and South Burnett CTC.<\/p>\n<p>Two groups of 10 trainees had worked on the South Burnett Rail Trail project; 80 per cent of participants in the first group had found employment, and 60 per cent in the second group.<\/p>\n<p>Nurunderi was now planning another project in conjunction with Gumnut House at Murgon.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Schmocker said there had also been positive outcomes for the aged care, hairdressing and construction students.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With a little courage and commitment &#8230; you can be whatever you want to be,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Murgon State High School principal Maurice Ware thanked Mrs Schmocker for forging a relationship between Nurunderi and his school.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This year 10 per cent more students graduated than the previous year, and every student graduated with a QCE. That&#8217;s a great outcome,&#8221; Mr Ware said.<\/p>\n<p>The courses available to MSHS students will expand in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Ware said the proposal was to have six courses on offer, through funding provided by the State Government.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There will be a 300 per cent increase in the number of students who will be engaged with Nurunderi campus next year,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In his student address, graduate Gordon Wragge said the students&#8217; achievements were a credit to the college, the staff and the teachers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Anyone who wants to improve their lives, their employment chances, please utilise this great campus, Nurunderi campus,&#8221; Mr Wragge said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_166176\"
