Fitness fanatics – and those who’d like to be – should get along to the Wondai Swimming Pool in Mackenzie Street this summer.<\/p>\n

The South Burnett Regional Council has added five aqua bikes to the pool’s workout programs, thanks to a grant from the State Government’s Get Out, Get Active program.<\/p>\n

The new pieces of equipment are stationery stainless steel bikes that allow swimmers to pedal in the water, to take advantage of the many benefits of exercising in the pool.<\/p>\n

The bikes offer three resistance levels, and can be adjusted to suit individual needs.<\/p>\n

Wondai Swimming Pool manager Adrian Niemann has created nine new exercise programs that incorporate the new aqua bikes. <\/strong><\/p>\n

They include Leg Work, Smash ‘n Grab, Minute Man, Build It, 4 Minute Tabata, Let’s Have Fun, Pool Tri Plan and Old School Workout, and are designed for people of all fitness levels and abilities.<\/p>\n

The pool will be offering the new programs on Wednesdays, beginning in January, at 8:00am and 6:00pm.<\/p>\n

The aqua bikes will be available for pool patrons to hire, and all hirers will be offered the chance to participate one of the nine new exercise programs.<\/p>\n

Cr Ros Heit met up with Adrian last week and trialled one of the bikes in the pool. <\/strong><\/p>\n

“It certainly gives you a high intensity, low impact workout, with the comfort of staying cool in the pool,” Cr Ros Heit said.<\/p>\n

During the winter months, the bikes will take up residence at the South Burnett Aquatic Centre in Nanango.<\/p>\n

The Get Out, Get Active Program is funding provided by Queensland’s Department of National Parks, Sport & Racing.<\/p>\n

It provides funding for projects that deliver community-based sport and recreation activities that increase opportunities for participation by women and girls who are either currently inactive, or would otherwise benefit from further participation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
