Historic Cherbourg pottery – featured in exhibitions locally earlier this year – is now on show in Brisbane.<\/p>\n

Innovation Minister Leeanne Enoch launched the exhibition at the State Library of Queensland.<\/p>\n

Barambah Cherbourg Art Craft features more than 100 individual pieces of pottery created by Barambah Potters in Cherbourg between 1969 and 1987.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe exhibition tells the stories of the Barambah Pottery artists, potters and community members through the pottery pieces themselves,\u201d Ms Enoch said.<\/p>\n

Barambah Cherbourg Art Craft is co-curated by Cherbourg’s The Ration Shed Museum.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s fascinating to see Barambah Pottery was once a small commercial venture established in the Aboriginal Community of Cherbourg in the late 1960s, that quickly became a major creative and employment centre for the community,\u201d Ms Enoch said.<\/p>\n

Pieces of pottery were borrowed from private collectors for the exhibition, but the bulk of the works came from The Ration Shed Museum\u2019s historical collection.<\/p>\n

Also on display will be historic photographs, information about the locally sourced clay from Barambah Creek and a newly acquired McConnell kick wheel plan designed for Cherbourg by well-known Queensland potter Carl McConnell.<\/p>\n

The exhibition is being housed in the kuril dhagun area at the State Library and will be on display until April 16.<\/p>\n
