Transport routes and telecommunications technology are expected to be the hot topics discussed at the AgForce South-East Queensland regional forum being held in Toowoomba on Friday.<\/p>\n

AgForce south-east Queensland regional president Carolyn Stone said the end-of-year meeting was a chance for local members to learn more about key issues affecting their industry and celebrate a big year for Queensland agriculture.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith welcome winter and early spring rain in many parts of Queensland and good commodity prices in many sectors, there is a renewed sense of optimism in agriculture,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cGlobal demand for our high quality food and fibre is growing rapidly, and will continue to grow with the right policy settings from governments and investment in infrastructure to reduce costs from paddock to plate.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will be great for AgForce SEQ members to come together after a busy 12 months to discuss the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead for agriculture in 2017.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mrs Stone said the \u2018Growing Future Leaders\u2019 forum would include an array of guest speakers including Toowoomba Mayor Paul Antonio, and representatives from GrainCorp, Telstra and NBN Co.<\/p>\n

\u201cHaving access to fast, reliable and affordable mobile phone and internet services is one of the biggest issues in the bush, so we are pleased that representatives from a range of telecommunications companies will take part in the forum,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe priorities of the supply chain will be in focus in a session involving OBE Organics executive and 2016 Cattle Council of Australia Rising Champion Kirsty McCormack, as well as Australian Meat Industry Council chair Lachie Hart.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere will also be a session with Kerrie Richards from Merino Wool, while AgForce elected representatives and policy staff will give presentations on issues such as vegetation management, transport, trade and pest and weed management throughout the day.\u201d<\/p>\n

The forum will be held in the Tapestry Function Room at Fitzy\u2019s, 153 Margaret Street, Toowoomba, from 8:30am to 4:00pm, before members move to Gips, Clifford House, from 5:30pm for the AgForce SEQ end-of-year gathering.<\/p>\n
