Cherbourg’s recycling facility will get a $499,000 upgrade, State Development Minister Dr Anthony Lynham announced on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Dr Lynham said the funds would help to improve sorting and compacting at the plant, and generate new business opportunities for Cherbourg.<\/p>\n

The project will include a new shed to house the waste-processing machinery, hoppers for the public to deposit recyclable waste, new feed conveyors, work platforms and electricity supply, and constructing a cement apron along the front of the sheds.<\/p>\n

The plant currently produces about 250 tonnes of recyclable items a year; the expansion should allow it to increase its capacity to 1500 tonnes in a safer, more environmentally friendly way.<\/p>\n

Construction is expected to begin in February and be completed by July.<\/p>\n

The funding has come from Round 2 of the State Government’s Building Our Regions program.<\/p>\n

Fifty other projects were also funded under this round across Queensland.<\/p>\n
