Fourteen QFES fire crews and six crews from the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service were at a large forest fire burning near Wondai and Cherbourg on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

The fire, which broke out on Sunday, is not threatening homes.<\/p>\n

A QFES spokesman said the fire had been contained and crews were now working to strengthen containment lines.<\/p>\n

Smoke is affecting Cherbourg, Wondai, Nanango and surrounding areas.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, 3:20pm<\/strong><\/p>\n

There are now 17 fire crews working to contain the large bushfire burning in the forestry area between Cherbourg and Wondai.
\n<\/strong>
\nEight Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) fire crews are working alongside\u00a0nine Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) crews.<\/p>\n

A QFES spokesman said there was no threat to homes at this time, however the fire is burning towards the northern end of the Wondai State Forest.<\/p>\n

Firefighters are currently backburning and constructing fire breaks to contain the blaze.<\/p>\n

Water bombing is also taking place .<\/p>\n

Residents have been advised to avoid the area, particularly around Old Cherbourg Road.<\/p>\n

Fire crews worked over Monday night backburning to contain a bushfire which has been burning in the Wondai State Forest since Sunday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Forestry tracks and Old Cherbourg Road were closed to allow firefighters safe access.<\/p>\n

A QFES spokesman asked people to continue avoiding the area on Tuesday as visibility was still low and emergency crews were working in the area.<\/p>\n

Firefighters are working with Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service staff to strengthen containment lines.<\/p>\n

The local fire crews were joined by a rural \/ urban strike team from central Queensland on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Water bombers were also called in on Monday to assist.<\/p>\n

The spokesman said the fire was posing no threat to property but was creating a lot of smoke, especially in Cherbourg and Wondai.<\/p>\n
