A 2014 plan for an upgrade of Murgon’s CBD footpaths which was put on the back-burner when urgent repairs were needed to the Jubilee Swimming Pool is now back on the MBDA’s agenda<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Murgon Business and Development Association (MBDA) will ask the South Burnett Regional Council to consider two projects for next year’s budget: upgrading footpaths in the town’s CBD, and removing potentially dangerous palm trees outside the town’s day care centre.<\/p>\n

At the MBDA’s most recent meeting, Deputy Mayor Kathy Duff told members money has been allocated to scope the CBD footpaths project, and there has also been a budget allocation to scope a proposed Interpretive Center which would be built near the South Burnett Rail Trail.<\/p>\n

However, neither project is likely to advance any further during the current financial year as the Council focus their funds on improving the region’s rural road network.<\/p>\n

Cr Duff suggested the MBDA hold off sending a letter to the Council about the palm trees until the cost of doing this had been investigated.<\/p>\n

Graham House has injected $556,000 into the Murgon comunity over the last 12 months, Iris Ferguson told the meeting.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Graham House is funded by the government, Iris said, but it is also involved in a number of projects that don’t attract government funding.<\/p>\n

To pursue these, it needs to raise the funds itself.<\/p>\n

This year one of Graham House’s major fund-raisers would be a Big Night Out concert with Outtawak at Murgon Town Hall.<\/p>\n

* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n

BIEDO will be hosting a South Burnett Business Expo at Kingaroy Town Hall on Monday, November 21.<\/strong><\/p>\n

CEO Kristy Frahm said the Expo would give South Burnett businesses the opportunity to showcase their services to the public, as well as network with other local businesses.<\/p>\n

The Expo will include guest speakers, information and trade stands, and was an opportunity for a wide range of stakeholders – new businesses, established businesses, primary producers, and organisations with services or products to offer other business – to come together in one space.<\/p>\n

Admission to the Expo will be free and open to the public, and a sausage sizzle will be running, too.<\/p>\n

Stands at the Expo are $33 and can be booked by phoning BIEDO on (07) 4169-5456.<\/p>\n

* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The MBDA will raise membership fees next year from $66 to $77, including GST.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Memberships will run from January to December, and pro-rata memberships will be available from July onwards for $44.<\/p>\n

Finmancial members will receive all minutes, correspondence and financial reports from meetings, while non-members will only receive correspondence and meeting notices.<\/p>\n

Meeting dates will continue to be 6:30am breakfast meetings held on the second Thursday of each month, and the next AGM will be held in September 2017.<\/p>\n

The current MBDA executive is Leo Geraghty (President), Margaret Long (Secretary) and Stacey Perrett (Treasurer).<\/p>\n

MBDA 2016-17 committee members are Mark Smith, Lanse Ray, Curtis Micken, Corey Goldie and Gary Long.<\/p>\n

The Murgon Business and Development Association represents the businesses and community of Murgon and surrounding districts.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The group holds regular monthly meetings and new members are always welcome.<\/p>\n

The MBDA\u2019s next breakfast meeting will be at Murgon\u2019s Royal Hotel on Thursday, November 10.<\/p>\n

Breakfast is $15 and coffee an extra $4.<\/p>\n
