If you can’t go to Flemington, then Kumbia’s definitely the next best place to be on Melbourne Cup Day.<\/p>\n

Even the weather on Tuesday was reminiscent of Melbourne’s “four seasons in one day” … hot, then overcast and breezy plus a light shower.<\/p>\n

And the fashions on parade would not have looked out of place down south.<\/p>\n

Prizes were awarded in the categories of Classical Best Dressed Lady (12 entries), Unique Styling (9 entries) and Best Dressed Gentleman (9 entries).<\/p>\n

The cheers for the entrants as they marched along the catwalk were louder than the yelling trackside.<\/p>\n

On the track, the entries were equally classy although the meeting suffered from a number of scratchings.<\/p>\n

Local trainer James Curtain would have gone home happy after his “The Equine Bolt” took out Race 2 by a head from fellow local runner “Churchill Dawn”.<\/p>\n

Trainer\u00a0Krystle Johnston would have been feeling more frustrated. At one stage her Craiglea Stud at Kenilworth had seven runners listed but she\u00a0went home with just two third places.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately there were only four starts in the main race of the day, the Huston Motors Kumbia Cup.<\/p>\n

The lead swapped several times ahead of the main turn before Charge Missile and Sun Will Shine battled it out to the line.<\/p>\n
