Boondooma Dam is about to get a $50 million facelift, courtesy of the State Government.<\/p>\n

The work, which will begin before the end of the year, will include repairs to the spillway and stabilising the dam wall.<\/p>\n

Treasurer Curtis Pitt said the work would support about 120 full-time jobs during construction.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese works are essential to ensure the ongoing supply of water needed to power the Tarong Power Station,\u201d Mr Pitt said.<\/p>\n

\u201cRestoring Boondooma Dam is also critical to ensure a secure supply for its many irrigation, agricultural and domestic customers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe project will include stabilising the dam wall, constructing a new erosion control structure, additional defensive anchors and wall protection.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnsite works are expected to commence in late 2016 during the wet season and be delivered by the end of 2017.\u201d<\/p>\n

Built in 1982, the dam has a capacity of more than 204,200ML and supplies \u00a0between 50 million and 80 million litres of water to Tarong Power Station every day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
