This is a story that our councillors begged us not to run … but we’re not afraid to take on the tough assignments.<\/p>\n

Or the downright silly ones, either.<\/p>\n

At noon on Wednesday, the South Burnett mayor and councillors – and a more than a handful of Council employees – gathered in the Glendon Street Forecourt to make absolute gooses of themselves.<\/p>\n

All in the name of Mental Health Week …<\/p>\n

(What’s that about Englishmen and the midday sun?)<\/p>\n

Tracy Ahlquist, from SYG Counselling Services at Nanango, ran a Laughter Yoga session to teach the councillors and employees some new ways to relieve stress.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Laughter Yoga is based on the idea that voluntary laughter provides the same physiological and psychological benefits as spontaneous laughter.<\/p>\n

The “games” create a playfulness between the participants who quickly start genuinely laughing out loud.<\/p>\n

So Tracy had the councillors sticking out their tongues, scratching their backsides, waving their arms around and making odd noises.<\/p>\n

They all took part, although a couple looked like they wished the ground would open up beneath their feet.<\/p>\n

When it was time to depart back into the Council Chambers, they couldn’t escape fast enough … but at least they were all smiling!<\/p>\n
