Cherbourg Aboriginal Council is one of 31 Queensland councils which have been invited to apply for funding under a one-off special $5 million round of the State Government\u2019s Building our Regions infrastructure program.<\/p>\n

State Development Minister Dr Anthony Lynham said the councils could apply to fund much-needed critical infrastructure projects to support jobs and economic development.<\/p>\n

The councils targeted are located in remote parts of the State or are Aboriginal Shire Councils.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Palaszczuk Government recognises that small projects can make a big difference in remote communities,\u201d Dr Lynham said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is about listening and responding to the needs of our most remote and Indigenous councils, which is why we are making extra funds available and halving the minimum amount they can apply.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome of these councils need an extra hand, which is why my department has been working with Council staff to help them identify suitable projects and demonstrate how these meet community need and support local economic development.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cBy lowering the funding threshold from $100,000 to $50,000, councils will now able to apply for projects previously deemed too small.<\/p>\n

\u201cI encourage the 31 councils eligible to get their expressions of interest in for the Remote and Indigenous Communities Fund.\u201d<\/p>\n

Expressions of interest can be submitted from October 17 to November 18.<\/p>\n

Councils will be advised by January if they have been shortlisted and then have to make a detailed application.<\/p>\n
