South Burnett Regional Council volunteers Daun Clapperton and Robyn Peterson were formally recognised by the RSL of Australia at a ceremony held at Anzac House in Brisbane recently.<\/p>\n

Daun and Robyn were presented with a 2016 Anzac Of The Year Award for their dedicated commitment to the construction of the South Burnett World War I veteran’s database, and the book “Every Man Remembered – South Burnett Heroes”.<\/p>\n

Daun and Robyn have now spent eight years researching the lives of men and women who served in World War I, and who had a connection to the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

From this research, they built a South Burnett World War I veteran’s database and the book based on it.<\/p>\n

The database can now be viewed on the South Burnett Regional Council’s website, and the book can be found in the reference sections of all local libraries.<\/p>\n

Anzac Of The Year awards are presented annually by the RSL of Australia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Up to seven awards are given out each year to recognise the achievements of Australians who have given service to their fellow Australians in a positive, selfless and compassionate manner, in accordance with the Anzac tradition.<\/p>\n

The RSL’s Queensland State President, Stewart Cameron CSC, presented a certificate, a bronze medallion depicting Simpson of Gallipoli and his donkey, along with lapel pins to the two women.<\/p>\n

“This is a unique award, the first time we’ve had a dual presentation,” Mr Cameron said.<\/p>\n

Mayor Keith Campbell said it was wonderful to see national recognition for Daun and Robyn\u2019s tireless efforts on the project.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The pair had already been recognised by the Council, jointly winning the Senior Cultural Award in this year’s South Burnett Australia Day Awards.<\/p>\n

“The database is a living document and it is continually being updated,” Mayor Campbell said.<\/p>\n

“Daun is still being approached by family members who are providing more information and photographs to be included in it.”<\/p>\n
