A series of free community dinners for residents in rural parts of the region will get a repeat run soon, thanks to the State Government.<\/p>\n

Last year, Cr Ros Heit secured funding from the Department of Communities for a series of “Down With The Drought” dinners to help lift flagging spirits in the South Burnett’s farming areas.<\/p>\n

After two floods and drought, some farmers had been pushed some close to their limits.<\/p>\n

The aim of the dinners was to help them reconnect with their neighbours in a relaxed and friendly environment.<\/p>\n

And they proved so successful that in January this year the Department agreed to provide another $63,000 grant to fund a second series.<\/p>\n

The latest round of 10 community dinners will be held at Wooroolin, Tablelands, Mondure, Durong, Booie, Kumbia, Goodger, Maidenwell, Cloyna, and Coverty between mid-October and mid-December.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cr Heit said she was looking forward to the new series, which were likely to be the last the Department would fund now the South Burnett’s drought declaration had been lifted.<\/p>\n

“Our first round of dinners was very well received. They were all organised by local community groups, and this new round of dinners will be run the same way,” she said.<\/p>\n

“Local community groups set the menu, book the entertainment, arrange the lucky door prizes, decide the format each dinner will take, and issue the invitations.<\/p>\n

“Council picks up the bill, but it’s the State Government that pays it.”<\/p>\n
