Toowoomba Regional Council is calling for nominations from Yarraman and Cooyar residents for its annual Australia Day awards.<\/p>\n

TRC Australia Day committee chairman Cr Mike Williams said residents must lodge nominations before Monday, October 31.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile Council plays a part in organising these functions, it is entirely up to the community to nominate the people they consider are most deserving of recognition,\u201d Cr Williams said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have hundreds of people involved in community and not-for-profit groups across the region who contribute countless hours of assistance and run facilities or events for the benefit of fellow residents.<\/p>\n

\u201cToo often this voluntary work is taken for granted or not appreciated fully by others who do not understand the commitment that is required to run these groups.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a fitting reward for any of these people to be nominated and then considered for the various award categories, particularly the overall region award.<\/p>\n

\u201cI also ask residents to consider joining their local Australia Day committee.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cMost people love a great celebration and it\u2019s only as good as the effort put in before the actual day.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny group would welcome the assistance of new faces.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s a great way to meet new people and become involved in organising and contributing to our national day celebrations in our respective communities on January 26.\u201d<\/p>\n
