Old tiles around the edge of the pool are being removed so square, non-slip edging can be installed; expansion joints are being replaced; and the pool is being painted. Wondai’s pool is scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, September 26 and pool managers Adrian and Rachel Niemann are taking bookings for swimming lessons and exercise classes.

In Murgon, a painting defect discovered at the Murgon swimming pool has meant the pool has had to be emptied so its surface can be prepped and repainted. The painting problem is a defect caused by the original contractor and it is being fixed under the building contract’s warranty. Pool manager Lori Hall is taking bookings for swimming lessons and exercise classes, but the date for the pool’s reopening has not yet been set.

In Blackbutt, the swimming pool’s solar heating system and chlorine closing equipment is not operational, and the pool can’t reopen until this equipment is repaired or replaced by its owner, the Department of Education. This is expected to occur in late October.

And in Proston, the contract for the management of the Proston swimming pool is currently being negotiated so that pool is not expected to open until late October, too.

In Kingaroy, the swimming pool reopened last Saturday, September 17. Pool managers Donna and Joe Dangerfield are taking bookings for learn to swim and squad classes.

The council’s sixth pool – the South Burnett Aquatic Centre in Nanango – is open year-round.

* * *

To date the South Burnett Regional Council has received very little feedback about the region’s Draft Planning Scheme, Cr Fleischfresser said.

The new Planning Scheme, which has been under development for the last eight years, will supercede the former Murgon, Wondai, Kingaroy and Nanango Shire Planning Schemes when it is adopted.

Public consultation will remain open, and written submissions will be accepted, until October 31.

Cr Fleischfresser said the new Planning Scheme was a very comprehensive document and he wasn’t surprised people would take some time to digest it.

But he was hopeful more submissions would come in as the deadline drew closer.

Copies of the Planning Scheme can be viewed at Council libraries in Kingaroy, Blackbutt, Nanango, Proston, Murgon and Wondai, or on the Council’s website.

* * *

In other property news, Council has received quotations to build new amenities in the Blackbutt-Benarkin Lions building.
