Police are appealing for anyone with dashcam footage shot on Kingaroy-Cooyar Road on Tuesday afternoon to come forward\u00a0in a bid to track down a motorcycle spotted travelling at more than\u00a0220km\/h near Taabinga Village.<\/p>\n

About 2:15pm, a black motorcycle sped past a police patrol car travelling in the opposite direction.<\/p>\n

Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant Duane Frank, said the patrol car activated its lights and turned around, but the motorcycle rider did not stop and the patrol car did not pursue it.<\/p>\n

The on-board radar on the police vehicle locked in the motorcycle travelling at 223km\/h, while the patrol car was travelling at 96km\/h.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The motorbike passed the police car at an extremely dangerous speed,” Snr Sgt Frank said.<\/p>\n

“The rider was wearing black leathers, and we are reasonably confident it was a male.<\/p>\n

“He was wearing a full-face black helmet.”<\/p>\n

Snr Sgt Frank described the rider as “an idiot”.<\/p>\n

“The roadway isn’t smooth and he could have easily lost control. He could have hit debris on the road or a motorist could have pulled out in front of him from any number of side streets,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Anyone who thinks they can control a bike at that speed on that stretch of road is an idiot.<\/p>\n

“This just highlights what some people do on our roads. He is obviously not concerned about his own safety.”<\/p>\n

In 2015, almost one-quarter of all road deaths in Queensland were either motorbike riders or pillion passengers, even though motorbikes make up only only 4 per cent of vehicles.<\/strong><\/p>\n

So far this year, 37 motorbike riders or pillion passengers have been killed on Queensland roads.<\/p>\n

Snr Sgt Frank asked that anyone with dashcam footage who was on Kingaroy-Cooyar Road, travelling in either direction, on Tuesday afternoon who may have seen the bike, or been overtaken by it, contact Kingaroy Police.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
