The South Burnett Regional Council says the decision to introduced quarterly rates notices has been a success.<\/p>\n

A council spokesman said there had been a 35 per cent drop in the number of rates in arrears since the introduction of more frequent bills.<\/p>\n

“We made a decision to move to quarterly rates to ensure they were easier for people to budget, and this has resulted in a significant drop in the amount of rates in arrears,” Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said.<\/p>\n

The Council introduced quarterly rate notices in the 2012-2013 Council budget.<\/p>\n

“Councillors thought long and hard at Budget time about the decision to introduce quarterly rate notices,” finance spokesman Cr Keith Campbell said.<\/p>\n

“The number of people paying their rates on time confirms that Council made the right decision.”<\/p>\n

Mayor Kratzmann said the increase in the number of ratepayers paying their rates on time was “very encouraging”.<\/p>\n

“It is greatly appreciated by both the Councillors and Council staff that so many ratepayers have paid their rates on time.<\/p>\n
