Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington is challenging residents to shop locally and purchase 100 per cent of their Christmas needs from small businesses to help bolster sales and support local jobs in the “100% Local Christmas Challenge”.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe countdown to Christmas has well and truly begun and local businesses, particularly small businesses need our support,\u201d Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany of the Newman Government members have a background in small business and we understand the importance of shopping locally to support business and industry.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you shop local, your money stays local. Our small businesses in turn support the community through a multiplier effect, with one dollar spent at a local business returning five times that amount through employee wages, rates and the purchase of materials and supplies.<\/p>\n

\u201cSmall businesses also turn dollars received back into the community through school funding, social services and contributions to local non-profit agencies.<\/p>\n

\u201cSmall business is the backbone of Queensland\u2019s four pillar economy, underpinning the vital sectors of tourism, agriculture, mining and construction.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 100% Local Christmas Challenge encourages residents to do all of their Christmas shopping locally \u2013 a challenge that Deb Frecklington has also committed to.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe benefits of supporting local businesses and shopping locally cannot be underestimated,\u201d Deb said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy family and I always try to shop locally and are doing our small part to bring more jobs into our region.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis challenge is about strengthening and supporting our community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Deb said there are almost 412,000 small businesses in Queensland, accounting for 96 per cent of all businesses in the State.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
