The South Burnett wrapped up Disability Action Week with an “All Walks And Wheels” fun day in Memorial Park, Kingaroy, on Saturday.<\/p>\n

There were wheelchair races around an obstacle course, games and activities plus a free sausage sizzle.<\/p>\n

Some of the games – such as neck-a-race and brekky race – were designed to give able-bodied participants are small taste of what it is like for people with a disability to negotiate common tasks, such as eating breakfast.<\/p>\n

A special guest at the fun day was Cr Alana Purcell, from Cherbourg Council, the star of a recent video showing how she is getting on with life despite being dependent on a wheelchair for mobility.<\/p>\n

Joining in the activities were South Burnett councillors Danita Potter and Ros Heit, as well as local chef Jason Ford.<\/p>\n

A highlight for many of the participants on the day was the “liberty swing”, basically a large mobile swing which can hold a wheelchair.<\/p>\n
