Sunshine Coast jockey Jason Hoopert, who will be in action at Nanango on Saturday, has taken out the 2016 South East Queensland Country Jockeys Premiership.<\/p>\n

It is the second time the former Murgon resident has won the senior premiership, but this time he will be able to celebrate the occasion.<\/p>\n

In July 2006, Hoopert was badly injured in a race fall at Kilcoy which almost cost him his life.<\/p>\n

When the premiership was announced that year, Hoopert’s name was read out but he was in a coma.<\/p>\n

“First time ever that’s been done,” he joked this week on Facebook.<\/p>\n

Hoopert was told a few times he would never race again, but managed to get back to the track in 2011.<\/p>\n

Now he’s celebrating another senior jockeys victory, taking his return to racing full circle.<\/p>\n

It was also an excellent year for apprentices Montanna Savva, Adam Spinks and Hannah English who actually secured more race wins than Hoopert.<\/p>\n
