The original St Patrick’s school building is now used as a meeting room by the Catholic parish and local community<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

St Patrick’s Catholic School in Nanango will be celebrating its 100th anniversary next week with a string of activities culminating in a High Tea in the school hall on Saturday, November 17.<\/p>\n

The Sisters of Mercy founded the school in April 1912.<\/p>\n

The order was begun in 1831 in Dublin by Catherine McAuley, so the school is honouring its Mercy heritage by holding a “Catherine McAuley Day” on Monday (November 12).<\/p>\n

Students will learn more about the Sisters of Mercy and the history of their school.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday evening, a concert will be held from 6:00pm in the school hall.<\/p>\n

On Friday, the regular School Mass will be held at noon. All past students of the school are invited to come along and take part.<\/p>\n

That evening, from 6:00pm a lantern procession will wind its way through town from Pioneer Park to the school. This will re-enact the arrival of the Mercy Sisters by train in Nanango and their walk from the old railway station.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, November 17, the official Centenary celebrations will begin at 1:30pm with a High Tea at the school.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There will be live music from the Barkers Creek Bush Band and the South Burnett Chorale as well as cakes, sandwiches etc.<\/p>\n

Memorabilia will also be on display.<\/p>\n

Cost for the High Tea is $20 per person and the school is hoping for a large roll-up of past students to reminisce and swap stories of their school days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
