September 1, 2016<\/strong><\/p>\n

The St John\u2019s Lutheran School community celebrated a special event in their school grounds on Wednesday morning with their under-8 students: “Welcome To Spring, A Time To Grow”.<\/p>\n

The early years team combined with St John\u2019s Kindergarten staff and community playgroup to organise a morning of fun activities to celebrate young children and their learning.<\/p>\n

There were organised activities such as bubble blowing, kite making, box construction, story reading, a photo booth, painting, seed planting and craft areas.<\/p>\n

Many parents also joined in the fun at the junior playground where the morning\u2019s activities were set up, and helped the children participate.<\/p>\n

St John\u2019s Family-School Coordinator, who runs the weekly community playgroup, ensured families with younger children came along to join in the day.<\/p>\n

Local police and ambulance officers also brought their vehicles to the event for the children to have a look in, sit in and turn on the sirens.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The students enjoyed being able to try on the police vests, too!<\/p>\n

A small group of secondary students planned and participated in the day as part of their service learning unit.<\/p>\n

The students ran a craft activity which they had been working on for a few weeks beforehand, and also attended the staff meetings held to plan and prepare for the day.<\/p>\n

From the smiles on the children\u2019s faces, the event was deemed a huge success, as well as a celebration of the way young children learn through play experiences that support learning and discovery.<\/p>\n
