A good crowd of family and friends turned out at the Nanango netball courts on Friday night with balloons and streamers to watch the Grand Finals of the Inter-District Netball competition.<\/p>\n

Fittingly, both the Cadets and Junior Grand Finals featured a match-up between a Kingaroy and a Nanango team.<\/p>\n

In the Juniors, Purple Lightning (Nanango) scored an upset 14-7 win over Dynamites (Kingaroy) who had been undefeated all season.<\/p>\n

Player of the Match was Paige O’Connor (Purple Lightning).<\/p>\n

In the Cadets, Ferocious Pandas (Kingaroy) were too strong for Team Sassy (Nanango), winning 20-13.<\/p>\n

Tahlia Goschnick (Ferocious Pandas) was Player of the Match.<\/p>\n

During the break between games, Nanango Netball Association president Sheena Lindholm and Mick Glenny, a member of the Heritage Nanango Community Fund Board, took the opportunity to unveil the new sign which marks Heritage’s latest assistance to the Nanango club.<\/p>\n

A practise wall has been built beside the clubhouse – with sponsored bricks – to allow players to practise ball throwing and catching.<\/p>\n

Heritage Nanango Community Fund also supported the new fence which surrounds the grounds.<\/p>\n

Sheena thanked the volunteers who had spent an estimated 100 hours grouting and sanding back the cracks in the Nanango courts to allow the 2016 season to go ahead.<\/p>\n

She said permanent repairs to the four courts, which have suffered water damage, were the next major project for the club.<\/p>\n

The Nanango Netball Club has been quoted $240,000 + GST to repair the courts and re-surface them with a flexi-pave surface.<\/p>\n

Sheena said cement courts would be cheaper, at $190,000 + GST, so the club was aiming to raise this amount as a Stage 1.<\/p>\n

The Nanango Courts have been subject to repeated water damage in recent years.<\/p>\n

Sheena said the South Burnett Regional Council had agreed to provide $30,000 towards the project, and the Heritage Nanango Community Fund had promised $35,000.<\/p>\n

The club has also been applying to other funding bodies for assistance.<\/p>\n
