AGL Energy announced on Thursday that it has submitted a draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for its Coopers Gap Wind Farm project to the Office of the Co-ordinator General (OCG).<\/p>\n

AGL\u2019s Coopers Gap Wind Farm project manager, Neil Cooke, said submitting the EIS is another step forward for the project.<\/p>\n

“We will discuss the EIS at a Community Consultative Committee meeting at the Cooranga North Memorial Hall on Thursday, August 25 ahead of the OCG placing it on public exhibition, which we expect to be in mid-September,” Mr Cooke said.<\/p>\n

“The EIS is another opportunity for the community to provide their input to the project.”<\/p>\n

AGL will also be holding drop-in sessions during September and October at various regional locations so community members can stay up-to-date on progress, as well as ask questions about the project.<\/p>\n

“While we still have some time to go before a final decision is made on whether the project proceeds to construction, we are confident all the right steps are being taken,” Mr Cooke said.<\/p>\n

“Other factors to consider include the results of the tender, the final scope of the project, further development activities, and financing arrangements.”<\/p>\n

The Coopers Gap Wind Farm is proposed to have approximately 100 turbines, which would produce around 1,100 GWh of renewable energy, powering more than 190,000 average Australian homes.<\/p>\n

The renewable energy produced would reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 860,000 tonnes a year, which is equivalent to taking 250,000 cars off the road.<\/p>\n
