Three students from St Mary’s Catholic College have earned a silver medal at the south-east Queensland finals of the University of Queensland titration competition.<\/p>\n

The three Year 11 students travelled to UQ’s St Lucia campus recently to compete in the competition which brings together the best titration teams from across south-east Queensland.<\/p>\n

Chemical titration is an analytical technique that requires both extremely precise laboratory skills and a thorough conceptional understanding to determine concentrations of unknown solutions.<\/p>\n

The students were fortunate to have the use of the new UQ Laboratories. At these state-of-the-art facilities, the University of Queensland staff went to great lengths to give students the opportunity to enhance their chemistry skills.<\/p>\n

St Mary\u2019s team gained a Silver Medal for their efforts.<\/p>\n

The students are looking forward to competing in next year\u2019s event and perhaps changing their silver medal to gold.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am extremely proud of our students\u2019 achievements, particularly as it was their first attempt at this competition,” chemistry teacher Mr Gary Curran said.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019d like to thank our staff and parents who assisted our students to prepare and travel to and from this event.\u201d<\/p>\n
