Optus has been given permission to erect a new tower at 225 Benair Road, Benair.<\/p>\n

At last week’s Council meeting, Councillors were told the company had lodged an application to build the new tower as part of a nationwide plan to improve mobile coverage and enhance the company’s mobile network services.<\/p>\n

The new tower will be a 40 metre monopole which will carry three panel antennas, three parabolic dish antennas and 12 remote radio units.<\/p>\n

The tower will also have a prefabricated equipment shelter at ground level, and will be contained in a 126 sq m leased compound enclosed by a 2.4 metre high chainlink security fence.<\/p>\n

The application was publicly advertised between mid-June and mid-July, and no submissions were received.<\/p>\n

Councillors agreed to approve the new tower subject to the usual conditions that apply to telecommunications towers.<\/p>\n

The Barambah Bowhunters and Field Archers Association have been relieved of a $787 Plumbing and Drainage Fee for upgrading their club-house.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The club want to install a new septic tank, three hand basins, four toilets and four showers at their South Nanango headquarters.<\/p>\n

Councillors were told the not-for-profit sports group was established in 1985, and lease an area of around 40ha from the Council for an archery range.<\/p>\n

The club wanted to add extra features to its ablution block to provide more comfort to members and visitors going to the site for practice and competitions.<\/p>\n

Councillors agreed to waive the fee in accordance with its standard policy of not levying fees on not-for-profit community groups who want to build infrastructure.<\/p>\n

It will, however, retain the $168 document lodgement fee.<\/p>\n

This is also standard policy.<\/p>\n

The owners of a Proston house which has been vacant since March this year received an unpleasant surprise when their August water bill arrived: $1237 in water usage charges.<\/strong><\/p>\n

At Wednesday’s Council meeting, Councillors were told the high water usage couldn’t be explained because the house has been vacant for the last six months.<\/p>\n

Council agreed to reduce the bill by $1237 – less normal average “pro rata” water usage – under its Undetected Water Leaks Policy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
