Another 250 households in the South Burnett will be just a little bit safer soon thanks to Downer, operators of the Meandu Mine.<\/p>\n

Downer representative Chrys McDuffie handed over 250 fire blankets on Wednesday to SBcare in Kingaroy for distribution throughout the community.<\/p>\n

The blankets are used to smother small fires, especially the type that commonly occur in the kitchen.<\/p>\n

SBcare CEO Cheryl Dalton said the fire blankets would be distributed to Meals On \u00a0Wheels recipients throughout the South Burnett, Kingaroy Senior Citizens Club members and SBcare clients.<\/p>\n

Cheryl said SBcare could also arrange to mount the blanket emergency packs on the wall if people couldn’t do that for themselves.<\/p>\n

The blankets should not be mounted above the stove, which is where the flames will most likely be. Instead, they should be mounted on another wall in the kitchen where they would be handy to reach in an emergency.<\/p>\n

The fire blanket is pulled from its container and placed over the burning pan to starve the fire of oxygen.<\/p>\n

Chrys said Downer had a huge focus on safety at the mine. They had distributed fire blankets to their employees and had also extended it to the wider community.<\/p>\n

Downer plans to distribute 800 fire blankets during its current campaign in the South Burnett.<\/p>\n
