Taliqua Clancy and Louise Bawden are through to the quarter finals of the Rio Olympics beach volleyball competition after beating Poland 2-1 on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Poland’s Monika Brzostek and Kinga Kolosinska took the first set 21-15 after defeating Australia’s spike attempts.<\/p>\n

Bawden said the pair had to be patient and stick to what they knew would work.<\/p>\n

The Australians won the second set 21-16 before closing out the final set 15-11 with an ace by Taliqua Clancy.<\/p>\n

“We knew what we had to do to beat those girls, we just had to stay really patient,” Clancy said.<\/p>\n

Clancy’s powerful serve got better as the game went on and she was able to force the Polish players into some mistakes.<\/p>\n

Bawden also got better at reading Poland’s defence, which had been very successful in confusing the Australians in the first set.<\/p>\n

Clancy and Bawden are now set to play their quarter-final match at midnight on Monday against the USA.<\/p>\n

Bawden said Poland’s stubborn defence had been useful to play against going into the next round.<\/p>\n

UPDATE August 15: It was a big effort from the Aussie beach volleyballers, but the USA pair of Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross were too strong on the day for Taliqua Clancy and Louise Bawden in the quarter-finals, winning 2-0 on Monday. Taliqua can now relax and enjoy the rest of the Olympics experience in Rio!<\/strong><\/p>\n
