A Friendship Fete last Saturday has helped Blackbutt’s C&K Community Kindergarten reach the half-way mark for its current fundraising campaign.<\/p>\n

The kindy is running an $8000 fundraising drive to paint a giant mural on two sides of their building, then paint the building’s other two sides to complement it.<\/p>\n

Prior to Saturday’s event, they had only managed to put $1000 towards their goal.<\/p>\n

But thanks to overwhelming community support at the fete, the kindy now has $4000 in the bank.<\/p>\n

Kindy teacher\/director Meaghan Lambeth said she was very proud of the way Timbertowns residents had come out to support the fete, which was held in Les Muller Park.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The community really came together and had a great time,” Meaghan said.<\/p>\n

“Glen the Magic Guy entranced the children, Piggy from the Bendigo Bank was a big hit, and so were the awesome Batman, Spiderman, Scooby Doo and Blazer the Bear.”<\/p>\n

Meaghan said foot traffic to the fete was constant all day, and local groups such as the Taromeo Rural Fire Brigade, the Taromeo Country Music Club and the Blackbutt Line Dancers had all helped.<\/p>\n

So did the team from Bendigo Community Bank and the Bloomin’ Beautiful Blackbutt Avocado Festival committee.<\/p>\n

Local artists and crafts people manned the stands that were dotted all over the park, and the sunny winter weather gave the day a happy glow.<\/p>\n

“We loved getting to share our wonderful kindy with the town and look forward to doing it all again next year,” Meaghan said.<\/p>\n

The kindy is now inviting locals to take part in their mural project, which will be painted on the front wall and a side wall of the building.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Our mural needs to reflect three things,” Meaghan said.<\/p>\n

“It needs to reflect the essence of Blackbutt; Indigenous peoples; and the children who are learning here.”<\/p>\n

The designer of the winning entry – or if part of a design is used, the winning entries – will be invited to help the artist paint the mural and also help to open the kindy building when it’s finished.<\/p>\n

Entry forms can be obtained at the kindy at 36 Sutton Street any Tuesday to Thursday, and entries will close on Thursday, September 15.<\/p>\n

All entries received up to September 9 will be on display at this year’s Bloomin’ Beautiful Blackbutt Avocado Festival on September 10-11.<\/p>\n
