Wondai Lions Club hosted an afternoon tea at the Wondai Art Gallery on Tuesday to thank the service club’s many supporters and volunteers.<\/p>\n

Recently elected club president Doug Wells said without help from the Wondai community the club “could not function in any way, shape or form”.<\/p>\n

“And a special thanks to the Driver Reviver people who assist Lions in a great way,” he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Wells said the “little tin on the counter” at the Driver Reviver stop in Dingo Park brings in a surprising amount of money for the club.<\/p>\n

He said the Lions always tried to put as much back into the local community as possible.<\/p>\n

In recent times, the Wondai Lions have donated $1500 to the South Burnett PCYC to help cover the cost of holding Blue Light discos in Wondai, and assisted with the purchase of sound equipment for the Percy Iszlaub Sound Shell in Coronation Park.<\/p>\n

Mr Wells said the club would also provide $500 to the Wondai Art Gallery as sponsorship for a category in this year’s South Burnett Acquisitive Art Prize.<\/p>\n

It was also looking to assist the local SES group which had re-established recently in town.<\/p>\n

Officer-in-charge of Murgon Police, Senior Sergeant Lance Guteridge, said the Lions Club donation would assist the PCYC cover insurance costs and registration of its disco trailer. He presented a “thank you” certificate to the club.<\/p>\n

Wondai Art Gallery curator Elaine Madill said $6400 had been spent to equip the Sound Shell – $2000 from funds from the former Wondai Chamber of Commerce, $2000 from Stanwell, $2000 from Wondai Lions and $400 from Cr Ros Heit’s discretionary fund.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Elaine Madill also used the morning tea to announce a new initiative for Wondai.

\nThe Wondai Art Gallery has decided to host a series of quarterly business breakfasts to help new businesspeople network with Wondai’s more established businesses.<\/p>\n

Wondai Lions Club will provide the breakfast.<\/p>\n

The first business breakfast will be held next Wednesday (August 10) from 6:45am at the gallery.<\/p>\n

Guest speaker will be Ken Mills, from Ken Mills Toyota.<\/p>\n

Cost is $15 per person.<\/p>\n
